Platinum Electrolytes

PLATUNA® N1 acidic platinum electrolyte deposits smooth, brilliant white platinum coatings with an approximate hardness of 500 HV. The deposit is crack-free up to 1 μm thickness. Platuna N1 coatings are well-suited for technical applications, e.g. as a catalyst in electrolyzers for hydrogen production. Platinum accelerates the hydrogen evolution reaction at the cathode and reduces the energy required for the reaction.

Platuna N1 can be deposited directly onto the carrier material (ideally titanium or nickel) and produces a very thin and homogeneous platinum layer. Platinum is also ideally suited as a surface material in medical sensors, as it is biocompatible, corrosion resistant and electrically conductive.

Platuna N1 coatings are used on electrodes, catalysts or receptors in ECG, glucose, oxygen and pH sensors. Contacts in connectors also benefit. The platinum layer reduces the resistance between the contacts and increases corrosion and abrasion resistance. Platuna N1 thus enhances the performance and service life of electronic, industrial and automotive plug contacts.

PLATUNA-ALLOY 1 platinum-ruthenium alloy electrolyte deposits smooth, brilliant and extremely abrasion-resistant coatings. The acidic electrolyte is used for decorative applications and guarantees light, white layers while conserving costly platinum. Deposits are crack-free up to 1 μm.

Platuna-Alloy 1 has a high deposition rate, and is used with conventional rack systems. It is compatible across a wide operating range.

PLATUNA PT pure platinum electrolyte deposits smooth, crack-free platinum coatings up to a layer thickness of 5 μm. The deposited layers have a brilliant luster and, in contrast to conventional platinum coatings, do not exhibit a yellow tint.

The electrolyte has a low sulfuric acid content, so it is less aggressive to the substrate. Deposition rate is independent of current density, so distribution uniformity is easily achieved. No precipitation occurs and the platinum concentrate can be stored at ambient temperature.

PLATUNA ALLOY RH platinum-rhodium electrolyte deposits abrasion-resistant platinum-rhodium layers. Sparkling, high-luster crack-free coatings can be deposited up to a layer thickness of 0.5 μm. The deposited coatings have no yellow tint.

Rhodium content contributes high hardness to the coating; the electrolyte’s low sulfuric acid content is also less aggressive to the substrate. Deposition rate is independent of current density, a characteristic that optimizes layer thickness distribution. No precipitation occurs and the platinum concentrate can be stored at ambient temperature.
